#2

As discussed in our previous class meeting, picking any sentence or two from Susan Sontag's reading as a quote for class are all ideally interesting to talk about. This week’s selfie can give the quote “ Photographs really are experience captured, and the camera is the ideal arm of consciousness in its acquisitive mood.” more meaning to my own interpretation of it. It is true that pictures capture experiences; these photographs become memories from when we’re on vacation, at a sports outing, at a birthday party etc. Aside from collecting these memories, their purpose are also to share and show fellow family members and friends what we are doing.  The picture above is a little different, it isn’t capturing a fun or exciting moment, nor would it ever be  captured by myself in the actual moment. This to me is a visual representation on what it has felt like the last couple of weeks since the semester started. It’s been overwhelming at the amount of tasks besides school related assignments that have to be completed and dealt with. There are too many things to pay attention to that my face in the picture looks distorted from the constant back and forth and keeping up with everything going on. It’s not so much capturing a moment but capturing a feeling, which is a bit difficult to explain.
