#7

The only book I have ever read for my own leisure and enjoyed a lot was “Crank” by Ellen Hopkins. I stumbled upon this book my freshman year in high school and can still remember the story as if I just finished reading it. To give a bit of background information, the book is based on true events with obvious twists. An ordinary straight A girl with hopes and dreams for the future takes a turn for the worst when she goes to visit her dad during the summer for two weeks. She meets a boy who introduces her to “the monster” (crystal meth). After one experience, as much as she tries to go back to reality back at home with her mother, she itches for the monster. Long story short, her crystal meth addiction leads to unfortunate events, pregnancy and prison. There is a sequel to this book called “Glass” and “Fallout.”
As for as the picture goes, the main character silhouette is filled with the addiction to crystal meth and prison which she faces eventually. The bottom is what she evidently wanted and was but was consumed by something much stronger. The background is metaphorically her life burning down, all the good she had in her life as the story goes on, ends up vanishing in a sense. Addiction to crystal meth or any drug for that matter is a dangerous path to follow.  This doesn’t necessarily define me in a literal sense or anything but something about this book allowed me to connect a lot to the main character, as if I was inside her head and that was very impactful.
