Wangechi Mutu Inspired Selfie

Paper Towns by John Green is one book that I am very fond of. Two characters, one named Quentin the other named Margo were best friends until 9 years old when they stopped talking. Margo becomes a popular girl in high school and hasn’t talked to Quentin in years until she comes knocking at his window one day in the middle of the night for a road trip. The two characters in the book go on this quest to get revenge on the friends that had wronged Margo. She then disappears during the last few weeks of high school and leaves clues for Quentin which he starts putting together to find her. He finally finds a clue of her being in New York and finds her there and when he does Margo wants him to stay with her. Quentin refuses to stay in her paper town and she does not want to go back to her old life in Orlando where all the memories and emotions are. Mutu speaks about how there is always a different side to a story and how you should be informed about the other side of the story. It is really easy to be tied to social media and act on the need to fulfill on what we are viewing. Mutu wants us to be aware that everything that society shows us and we shouldn’t always believe in it. Paper towns is all about taking roads ahead to find yourself and going through all of life’s tests to figure out who you are instead of just sitting around doing nothing. The selfie I took is inspired by the book cover and the artist, I picked a map of my country Algeria because that’s what  consider a place for a fresh start and new challenges ahead if I ever decide to live there.
