Even though this isn't exactly a selfie, I wanted to use this picture for this weekly selfie. A famous novel that I recently read in school is called The Hate You Give, or THUG. This book caught my attention right from the first chapter. Its about a black teen who got shot for reaching into his car which made the cop think he was reaching for a gun. The main character of the story, Starr, was the witness to the shooting and testified against the cop but he wasn't sentenced so everyone started a riot because of it. This book made me realize that we had horrible cops around the world. It actually at some point made me want to become a cop so that I can be the difference in the world and take actions correctly. They made a movie on the book which was just as good as the novel.
There is way too much violence in the world, and the book literally made me change my major to criminal justice. Of course I changed it back when I really thought about it for the long run. But it just shows how much anger comes from seeing these situations happen. The reasons men and women should want to become cops is to protect their city, state, and country. Not to have the ability to have power over people and use force whenever they want. In this photo, it is Starr who stood up in front of everyone to give the speech of how corrupt the police departments are. And all the cops did was push into them to make them leave the place. Something needs to be done about police brutality and we need better people for the job instead of those overpowered powered people that call themselves police officers.
