WEEKLY SELFIE. WANGECHI MUTU.
The above picture depicts a heroine named Zelie from the novel CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE. The background represents the challenges she must face in order to save her tribe and dethrone a powerful authoritarian emperor. I believe that this fictional novel is so relevant to the #metoo movement. Therefore, This week selfie is all about the female protagonist in our society and the danger of a single story, especially in under developed countries. It is a perfect fusion because Tami Adeyemi who's the author of the novel is a 25 year old young american of a Nigerian descent. Chimamanda who's also from Nigeria is a novelist as well. Additionally, Wangechi Mutu is also an immigrant from Kenya. In short, these women are debunking the stereotypes such as sub-Saharan African women are uneducated or submissive.
